Christina: This past September 8th (Kevin + my own anniversary) Ben contacted us regarding surprising his girlfriend Jesse with a well-thought out proposal. Since that date – he + I exchanged multiple emails, text messages, + videos until we nailed down exactly what we wanted to do – and exactly which pile of grass I would bury myself under in order to hide out for the proposal. (I really hope you’re following us on instagram because the hiding process out on Jesse’s family farm was quite an adventure in itself)… as the sun set + the dusk rose – Ben’s proposal couldn’t have been sweeter + more heart felt.
Ben: “I wanted to make the day special and unique to Jesse and I. Thus, my goal was to incorporate things we love throughout the day! I woke Jesse up with her favorite coffee and a bread tag with November 2nd as the expiration date (backstory, Jesse and I give each other bread tags because they are somewhat shaped as a heart to say we love each other. I scoured for a bread tag with the date of November 2nd which was harder than it seems!)”
“We then went on a run – I don’t run often but Jesse does – and I literally ran faster than I have ever ran before because I had so much nervous energy. Afterward, Jesse, Cami and her mom went thrifting (little did Jesse know this was all planned). A week before the date I had my best friend pick up and ship Jesse’s favorite cookies from Southern California which turned out to be an amazing surprise throughout the day. We are also huge games/board game people so we spent time bringing out our competitive side. Overall, the day could not have been more perfect. The weather was perfect and the day was filled with things Jesse and I love.”
Jesse: “I knew Ben was going to have to really get creative planning this proposal…he knows I have a way of finding things out. This weekend we were going up to my parents for my grandmas 88th birthday and the whole family… even my cousins were in on the “family’s” weekend plans.”
“However, when Ben woke me up with my favorite coffee, insisted on going on a run with me (the convincing usually goes the opposite way), had my favorite cookies sent to WA, and created a day that involved all things I loved… I started to wonder about the evening plans. Ben knows my connection to the farm I grew up on and the moment he asked (after being very particular about the outfit I wear to dinner) to go up to the top of the hill… I knew what was happening.”
“Even when I knew what waited at the top of the hill, the day was perfect in every way and I loved how it was captured. Turns out, after the proposal we still weren’t going to my grandmas birthday party like I thought…Ben had planned a surprise engagement party with all our family … it was the perfect day.”
“And sorry grandma, we will celebrate you soon!”
